This course offers an introduction and overview of recovery residences in the United State. Recovery residences are sober, safe, and peer support living environments that promote recovery from substance use and co-occurring issues. All are rooted in social model recovery philosophy; however, they range in the type intensity of services they provide. This creates a spectrum of options that cost-effectively match the diverse and changing needs of individuals starting and learning to sustain recovery from substance use issues.
